Bin Collection Days in Aldershot: Rushmoor Bins Explained
Everything Aldershot residents need to know about Rushmoor Borough Council's bin collections, in one place.
Check your bin day with Rushmoor Borough Council's online bin collection day finder using your postcode or street name. Bins go out before 7am on collection day, with green and blue bins alternating fortnightly and food waste weekly. Garden waste is an optional £50 a year (as of October 2026).
How to check your collection day
The quickest way is Rushmoor's bin collection day finder. Enter your postcode or street name, pick your address, and it shows your normal collection day plus the next rubbish, recycling, food waste and (if you subscribe) garden waste dates. You can also download a PDF calendar to print and stick on the fridge.
Rushmoor Borough Council covers both Aldershot and Farnborough. If you cannot use the online tool, call customer services on 01252 398 399 or email customerservices@rushmoor.gov.uk.
What goes in which bin
According to the council's bin collections page, collections alternate week by week:
- Green bin: non-recyclable rubbish, emptied fortnightly.
- Blue bin: paper, card, tins, cans, aerosols and plastic bottles, emptied fortnightly.
- Glass box or purple bin: glass bottles and jars, emptied fortnightly.
- Food waste caddy: collected every week.
- Garden waste (optional, paid): collected fortnightly.
One week the crews collect blue bin, glass and food waste. The next week they collect the green bin, food waste and garden waste if you subscribe.
Put your bins out before 7am on collection day, or the night before. A few Aldershot streets have earlier start times: Ash Road at 6.30am, Lower Farnham Road at 6am and North Lane at 6.15am. The council also operates a "no excess waste policy", which means it will not collect rubbish that is not in your bin. Small electrical items and batteries are collected weekly if placed on top of your bins.
Blue bin: the details
The blue bin guide says rinsed cans and tins, plastic bottles (squashed, lid back on), aerosols, newspapers, magazines, envelopes, office paper and flattened cardboard are all fine. Keep items loose rather than in plastic bags. Plastic bags, black sacks, plastic tubs, trays and pots, wrapping paper, shredded paper, juice cartons, foil, textiles and glass should stay out.
Food waste
The food waste service takes meat, fish, dairy, grains and fruit and vegetable scraps, and the council says it does not matter if the food is mouldy or out of date. Leave out packaging, cooking oil, milk and other liquids. You get a kitchen caddy and a black 23-litre lockable outdoor caddy. Ordinary plastic bags such as bread or salad bags, or newspaper, work as liners, but the council asks you to avoid biodegradable liners. A free replacement caddy can be requested through the council's online environmental services portal, or call the recycling helpline on 01252 398 164.
Garden waste subscription
As of October 2026, the garden waste service costs £50 a year for a brown wheelie bin collected every two weeks. You can sign up on the council's online portal. If you do not want a bin, compostable paper sacks can be bought pay-as-you-go.
Accepted: grass clippings, weeds, hedge trimmings, leaves, cut flowers, windfall fruit and prunings up to 100mm (10cm) thick. Not accepted: turf, soil, food waste, rubble, animal bedding, cat litter, dog waste or ashes. A bin with the wrong items in it will not be emptied. Free alternatives are home composting or Hampshire's household waste recycling centres.
Missed bins
If your bin was put out on time and was not emptied, use the "Report a missed bin" link on the collection day finder page, or phone 01252 398 399.
Bank-holiday changes
The council's main bins pages do not set out bank holiday arrangements, so we cannot list them here. Check your next dates in the collection day finder before a bank holiday, or ask customer services.
