EV Charging in Aldershot: Where to Charge and How to Check

A plain guide to public EV charging in Aldershot, separating what operators confirm from what the map lists.

Aldershot.co Editorial5 October 2026

InstaVolt's Aldershot site at McDonald's, 1 North Close (GU12 4HA) has four rapid chargers, with CCS2 up to 160kW, open 7am to 11pm. Rushmoor Borough Council does not list charge points in its Aldershot car parks and recommends Zapmap for finding chargers and checking availability.

You can charge an electric car in Aldershot at rapid chargers, on a supermarket car park and at a few other sites. This guide separates what we could confirm on an operator page from what is only listed on the Zapmap charge point map.

What Rushmoor Borough Council says

The council's EV charging page does not list charge points in its car parks. It says many fuel stations, supermarkets and other local businesses offer charging, points residents to Zap-map to find chargers in Aldershot and Farnborough, and says the council is working with Hampshire County Council to increase the number of charge points in Rushmoor. Its contact is sustainability@rushmoor.gov.uk. None of the Aldershot car park pages we read on the council site mention EV chargers, so do not plan around charging in a council car park.

Rapid chargers confirmed by the operator

InstaVolt, McDonald's, 1 North Close, Ash Road (GU12 4HA). InstaVolt's Aldershot page lists four rapid chargers. Speeds are up to 160kW on CCS2 connectors, which are on all four, and up to 60kW on CHAdeMO, available on one charger. The page gives hours as 7am to 11pm daily and a support line on 0808 281 4444. It shows a standard price of £0.92 per kWh and 55p per kWh for app users from 8pm to 7am, but prices change, so check InstaVolt before you rely on that.

Other sites listed on Zapmap

Zapmap's Aldershot page lists eight locations in the town. Zapmap is a charge point finder, not the operator, so treat these as pointers and check the network's own app before you go.

  • Tesco Superstore, 5 Wellington Avenue (GU11 1SQ), Pod Point network
  • MFG Aldershot, 400 High Street (GU12 4NE), MFG EV Power, listed as ultra rapid
  • The Greyhound, 1 Ash Street (GU12 6LA), BP Pulse, listed as rapid
  • Aldershot Station, Station Road West (GU12 5QD), Fuuse, listed as fast
  • 23 Wellington Place (GU12 5AL), Connected Kerb, listed as slow

Zapmap also lists chargers at Rossetts Commercials on Eastern Road and an S.M.C. site on Ash Road; those look like business or dealership sites, so check whether the public can use them.

Checking live availability

Charger status changes constantly, so use a live map before you set out.

  • Zapmap shows the charge points and, in its app, lets you filter by connector and speed.
  • The charging network's own app shows its own chargers; InstaVolt, for example, runs a support line and app for its sites.
  • Look at the site's opening hours. InstaVolt's page lists 7am to 11pm, so it is not a 24-hour site.

Tips before you go

  • Check your car's connector type. CCS2 is the common rapid connector on newer cars, and CHAdeMO is the older rapid type.
  • Slow and fast chargers are better for a longer stop, such as a shopping trip. A rapid charger suits a short top-up.
  • If a site is on a retail car park, check whether parking rules or time limits apply while you charge.

Charging at home

Rushmoor's page also tells residents to read Hampshire County Council's EV charging guidance for safe charging near their homes. Contact Rushmoor on sustainability@rushmoor.gov.uk with questions about the council's plans.
